What to Expect

Podcasts

• Subscribe via search or URL — Find shows through the built-in catalog or paste a private feed URL (Patreon, Supercast, etc.)
• On-device playback — Episodes download directly to your device. No cloud streaming, no intermediary servers
• Background downloads — Downloads continue even when the app is in the background or suspended
• Auto-download — New episodes download automatically when your feed refreshes
• Per-podcast playback speed — Set your preferred speed for each show independently
• Smart resume — Pick up exactly where you left off, even after a reboot or force quit

Audiobooks

• Free public domain audiobooks — Browse and listen to thousands of audiobooks from LibriVox, completely free
• Chapter navigation — Jump between chapters with auto-advance to the next one
• Offline listening — Download chapters over WiFi for listening anywhere

Text-to-Speech Reader

• Turn articles into audio — Subscribe to RSS feeds (blogs, newsletters, news sites) and TideCaster generates spoken audio using on-device text-to-speech
• Share Extension — Share articles from Safari or any app directly into TideCaster for audio generation
• Per-feed voice and speed — Choose different voices and reading speeds for each feed
• Progressive playback — Start listening before the full article finishes generating

Local Audio Files

• Import from Files — Bring your own MP3s, M4As, and other audio files from iCloud Drive or the Files app
• Metadata extraction — Title, artist, album, artwork, and duration are read automatically
• Playback tracking — Position is saved and restored just like podcasts

Playback

• Sleep timer — Fall asleep listening with a gentle 3-second audio fade-out
• CarPlay support — Browse your library and control playback from your car’s dashboard
• Background playback — Keep listening while you use other apps
• Lock screen and AirPods controls — Play, pause, skip, and scrub from anywhere
• Listening stats — Track your listening time, episodes completed, and time saved from speed adjustments

Your Data, Your Way

• iCloud sync — Optionally sync subscriptions, playback progress, and settings across your Apple devices. Apple handles the sync; no third-party servers involved
• Cellular controls — Choose whether to download on cellular or wait for WiFi, globally or per-download
• Auto-cleanup — Played episodes are automatically cleaned up after a configurable number of days
• Dark mode — Full dark mode support

Privacy

TideCaster collects zero data. No analytics, no telemetry, no accounts. Podcast feeds are fetched directly from their publishers — TideCaster never proxies your requests through its own servers.
