TuFalas is a translator built for learning European Portuguese. Type or scan text, get a translation with contextual notes, then ask follow-up questions to understand the nuances. It goes beyond word-for-word translation — TuFalas explains why something is said a certain way in Portugal.

What to Expect

Translation

• English ↔ European Portuguese — Strictly pt-PT dialect (tu, not você)
• Contextual notes — Explanations of nuance, regional usage, and common mistakes appear when they’re genuinely useful
• Alternative translations — Short phrases include 2–3 alternative ways to say the same thing
• Streaming responses — See the translation appear in real time

Conversation

• Follow-up questions — Ask “why is this wrong?” or “when would I use this?” and get answers with full context of what you just translated
• Persistent history — Resume any past conversation where you left off
• Multi-turn context — The tutor remembers the full thread, not just the last message

Camera & OCR

• Live scanning — Point your camera at signs, menus, and labels for real-time text detection
• Photo OCR — Extract text from photos in your library and translate it
• Automatic translation — Scanned text feeds directly into the translation pipeline

Text-to-Speech

• Hear the pronunciation — Listen to translations spoken aloud with language-aware voice selection
• Mixed-language handling — Content with both English and Portuguese is split by sentence and read with the correct voice for each language

Offline Mode

• Apple Translation fallback — When offline or if the API is unavailable, TuFalas falls back to Apple’s on-device Translation framework automatically
• Download language packs — Pre-download Portuguese for fully offline translation

• Free — 20 translations per day, 200 per month
• Subscriber — 1,000 translations per day, 30,000 per month
• Bring Your Own Key — Unlimited translations using your own OpenRouter API key

Privacy

TuFalas collects zero personal data. No analytics, no telemetry, no accounts required. Translation text passes through a managed proxy to reach the AI provider — no content is logged or stored on the proxy. In BYOK mode, text goes directly to your configured provider.
