How to Play
Where in the… shows you a country’s silhouette. Guess which country it is. You have up to 6 guesses — after each wrong guess, you see how far away and in what direction your guess was from the target. The closer you get, the higher your score.
After the silhouette round, five trivia rounds follow — capitals, flags, populations, languages, currencies, and more.
Between rounds, a Did you know? fact card appears with a tidbit about the country. Facts are spoiler-filtered so they never give away the answer before you’ve guessed.
Game Modes
Daily Challenge — One country per day, the same for everyone worldwide. Results reset at midnight local time. Your streak tracks consecutive days completed.
Practice — Play any number of rounds with no limits. Filter by continent or difficulty. Practice results don’t affect your daily streak.
Guessing & Scoring
- Type a country name in the search box and tap it to submit a guess.
- After each guess you see: distance to the target, a proximity percentage (100% = correct), and a direction arrow pointing toward the target.
- The silhouette round awards up to 6 points — more points for fewer guesses.
- Each trivia round awards 2 or 3 points depending on the question type.
- Use hints to reveal more of the silhouette — but hints cost points.
Multiplayer
Where in the… supports cooperative play with 2–6 players via Game Center. Everyone works together toward the same goal — any player’s correct guess wins the round for the whole team.
To start a game:
- Open the app and tap Play with Friends.
- Tap Auto-Match to find an open game, or Invite to bring in specific contacts.
- Once everyone has joined the lobby, the host taps Start.
Requirements:
- Game Center must be enabled on your device (Settings → Game Center).
- All players need an internet connection.
- Multiplayer works on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV.
Achievements
21 Game Center achievements track your progress — solo streaks, unique countries, multiplayer milestones, and a couple of hidden surprises. Achievements sync automatically across all your devices via Game Center.
Open the Game Center app or tap your profile icon in Where in the… to view your progress.
Themes
Where in the… includes 10 visual themes. Two are free; eight are unlocked with a one-time in-app purchase. To change your theme, go to Settings → Themes.
If you’ve already purchased the theme pack, tap Restore Purchases in the Themes screen to re-unlock on a new device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is a country’s answer marked wrong? Country data comes from a snapshot of the REST Countries dataset. If you think an answer is incorrect, tap Report a Data Issue on the results screen — your report goes directly to the developer for review.
Can I play offline? Yes. Solo play (daily and practice) works entirely offline — all country data is bundled with the app. Multiplayer requires an internet connection for Game Center.
Does Game Center need to be signed in? Only for multiplayer. Solo play works with or without Game Center.
My purchase didn’t restore — what do I do? Go to Settings → Themes and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you’re signed into the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. If the issue persists, email support@portcity.tech .
A multiplayer game got stuck or disconnected — is that a bug? Real-time multiplayer can drop if a player loses connectivity. The game will attempt to recover, but if players can’t reconnect, starting a new game is the best fix. If this happens repeatedly, email support with your device model and iOS version.
Where is my data stored? All game progress, settings, and achievements are stored locally on your device. No account is required. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
